Fern Yip
Adult Programs Instructor
Fern Yip is excited to be returning to the Thriving Roots team after a few years of building her own wilderness school near Pemberton.
She believes that deep nature connection is essential to living both soulfully and meaningfully on this earth, and brings deep dedication to the practice of ancestral and bushcraft skills, as well as over ten years of experience instructing at nature schools and ancestral skills gatherings. Fern enjoys many earth-based ancestral skills but has a particular love for tanning hides, tracking, foraging for food, and herbal medicine. Compelled by the vision of creating nature connected culture, Fern is honoured to guide others on their deep nature connection journeys.
Previous to founding Earthkin Wilderness School and the Earthkin Gathering, Fern has been a nature mentor for youth, teens, and adults with Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School, Thriving Roots Wilderness School, Cahoots Nature School, and the Palisades Outdoor Stewardship Centre in Jasper National Park.
She is a graduate of the 2-year Wisdom of the Earth Adult Immersion Program; holds a BA in environmental studies from Quest University Canada; a diploma from the University of Victoria’s Restoration of Natural Systems program; a certificate in herbal medicine from the California School of Herbal Studies and is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
She can often be found wearing full buckskin outfits made by herself while eating wild harvested food from her own primitive hunting trips… Needless to say, she’s a pretty rad human.
