Garrett Rokosh

Youth Programs Instructor

Garrett was born and raised in Treaty 6 territories of the Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuliné (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) peoples, also known as Edmonton, Alberta. His ancestry is predominantly Polish, Ukrainian, and English.

He grew up playing several sports including hockey, volleyball, soccer, baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, snowboarding, and golf. His family spent a lot of time in the rock mountains hiking, backcountry camping, snowboarding, rock climbing, and fishing.

In 2018, Garrett graduated from the University of Alberta School of Business with a degree in accounting. While there he was given awards for his involvement, was elected President of the Business Students' Association, and was sent with a small team of high performing students on international case competitions. During his studies, he had the privilege to travel in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Netherlands, Kenya, and Tanzania. Then in his final year, he started to notice deep feelings of depression, loneliness, stress, and numbness. This brought him to start journaling about his inner world, reading Dr. Brene Brown books about vulnerability, and seeking a conscious community that valued personal growth and authenticity.

In 2019, he took an authentic relating facilitator training in Austin, Texas which put him on a clearer path of creating more human connection and conscious communication in the world. He founded Social Architect where he continues to work as a trauma informed coach to help business leaders to improve conscious leadership, communication skills, and emotional intelligence. Some of his clients include Masterclass, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Burning Man and Mindvalley. He has also led over a dozen authentic relating and circling trainings, taken a Grief Ritual Leadership Apprenticeship, and is nearly finished a year long training in Dr. Gabor Mate's psychotherapeutic approach called Compassionate Inquiry.

His deep nature connection journey started in 2021, when he moved to Salt Spring Island and joined the 9-month adult immersion withWisdom of the Earth Wilderness School. He came back for a second year to train as an apprentice mentor in the WOLF school for youth aged 9-13, the teens, and adult programs. During this time he also led a Young Men's Nature Mentorship Series. His favorite ancestral skills include hide tanning, animal processing, hunting, trapping, basket weaving, animal tracking, and bird language.

Today he is thrilled to get to live life feeling like a "human being" connected with youth, mentors, fire, animals, wood, plants, birds, friends, and the mystery. And he's grateful to be living aligned with his mission for cultural repair in the areas of deep nature connection, human connection, conscious communication, grief literacy, and village building.
